The second largest island of the Winward islands is St. Lucia, only 238 square miles. That is roughly the size of West Virgina!! Named after Saint Lucy this was the first country to be named after a woman. The island has changed hands 14 times since 1663, showing that beauty and placement is something worth fighting for.
St Lucia gained their independence in 1979, only 45 years ago! It has a drive in Volcano, the Sulphur Springs. There’s only one in the world, and you can experience it as an excursion from your resort. Bubbling hot springs, vibrant Sulphur color, and therapeutic mud baths make this an unforgettable experience that you will want to see for yourself.
St. Lucia is the only place you will find the Jacquot or St. Lucia Parrot. They are the national bird of St. Lucia and hunted almost to extinction in 1976, there are currently over 2000 birds.
There is one distillery on the west side of the island where there are 21 different types of rum created. The most popular being Bounty Rum Gold with a light butterscotch aroma.
So what are you waiting for! Let’s go to St. Lucia!!!
